Ben Cherington said that the Pirates would never make a trade to save money, yet he contradicted himself in the next sentence. Poni says that the whole point of the Paul Skenes era is to spend money while we have him. The Pirates rank 8th in attendance in the NL, despite the small market. Cherington also said that the Pirates spend money on things outside of the player payroll in order to win games.
