Taking Back Your Body: Our Sit Down with The Gut Girl

The Mom Voice - A podcast by Sarah Bones & Lauren Willis

Jun. 15, 2020 - In this episode the girls sit down with Chanelle Cozette, better known as “The Gut Girl” and discuss a wide range of topics that all relate back to “the gut”. From mental health to IBS and other GI issues - it’s a fascinating and in-depth look at what effect our gut has on our body and overall well-being.   Chanelle starts off the episode sharing how she became The Gut Girl. She tells the story of how she was born into poverty and often had concerns about when and where her next meal would be coming from. And how that experience then fed a fast food diet in her early adult years. Chanelle shares some of the health challenges that she developed around 18 including chronic PMS and endometriosis and how she was able to correct those issues with treating the gut issues she was facing.   Chanelle opens up about her passion for learning all about the human mircobiome and shares many fascinating statistics that the girls were shocked to learn. They review what “the gut” is and all of the various aspects of that term and the importance it plays in generating needed bacterias and hormones for body and brain health. Did you know that 95% of all serotonin made in the body originates in the gut? Shocking, right?!   They then discuss autoimmune disorders and how gut health can drastically effect that. The girls then move on to discussing probiotics and Chanelle offers a lot of insight all of the various forms of probiotics. They talk Chanelle’s program Love Your Gut that helps identify potential food sensitivities and some of the more in depth testing that can be done by qualified professionals. Hear Chanelle’s approach to clean eating and indulging on those curtains days when you need! She even answers the question of organic vs. non-organic when grocery shopping (and her answer just might surprise you!)   This episode is an insightful look at how our health can improve when we start identifying potential gut issues and focusing our eating on the functionality of food.
