The Jazz Session #575: Luciana Souza

The Jazz Session - A podcast by Jason Crane

Categorie:

Vocalist Luciana Souza grew up in a family of Bossa Nova innovators - her father, a singer and songwriter, and her mother, a poet and lyricist. Her work as a performer transcends traditional musical boundaries, offering authentic jazz insight, sophisticated lineage in world music, and an enlightened approach to new music. While Luciana is a lover of words, having set the poems of Pablo Neruda and Elizabeth Bishop to music, she is also an expert in the art of wordless singing, effortlessly becoming another instrument and texture in small and large ensembles. Her work in this arena has seen her collaborate with Maria Schneider, the Yellowjackets and Vince Mendoza. Her most recent album “Storytellers” sees her team up with Mendoza and the WDR Big Band to celebrate both these worlds, as always, with her impeccable musicianship. Show Notes: Tracklisting: - Choro #3 - Pra Que Discutir Com Madame - Matita Perê - The Pretty Road - Veranda - Everyone Else Is Taken - Waters of March Storytellers is out on Sunnyside Records now.
