The Black Side of Advocacy with Cheryl Poe

The Autism in Black Podcast - A podcast by Maria Davis-Pierre, LMHC

The Autism in Black Podcast is hosted by Maria Davis-Pierre, LMHC and focuses on all things autism and the black parent experience. Our goal is to educate, support, and empower black parents to advocate not only for their children but themselves as well. Today we are joined by Cheryl Poe, founder, and owner of Advocating 4 Kids, Inc. Cheryl and I have a candid conversation surrounded being a black advocate advocating for black families. Cheryl talks about having an IEP as a child and some of the stigmas she had to deal with. She then goes on to advocate for her child and the stigmas she had to deal with as a parent. Cheryl lastly goes on to talk about some of the cases she has, how it’s different when advocating for black families, and so much more.   Resources Mentioned: Visit our Amazon Store for all the books mentioned on the podcast Where to find Cheryl: Advocating 4 Kids website Advocating 4 Kids Facebook NAPSE website Alliance against Seclusion and Restraint website The official hashtag for the podcast is #aibpod  You can find us on twitter @autisminblack Instagram @autisminblack Facebook @autisminblk Join the Autism in Black Podcast Community – here For more information and other valuable resources, make sure to visit the website at www.autisminblack.org
