The Atheist Experience 29.08 with Justin and Armin Navabi

The Atheist Experience - A podcast by The Atheist Community of Austin - Lunedì

In today’s episode of the Atheist Experience, Armin Navabi and Justin exist outside of space and time as Justin becomes King of ACA for a day and Armin receives love from the chats. Benjamin in AL, is wanting to talk about the history of Lucifer, and is contemplating becoming an atheist. What do you think the pros and cons are for this? Would you rather have a belief in reality or the comfort that belief brings you that may not match reality? Would you prefer to be fooled and believe there is an afterlife or would you rather know the truth? If any myth of the afterlife is true, we don’t know what scripture is the right one. Realize how lucky you are to have had the chance to be with your loved ones. Keep your focus on how precious these times were and are instead of what you didn't get. Your personal beliefs are your own beliefs and you do not owe them to anyone. Please call us with more updates to your journey!Simeon in GA wants to know the objections the hosts have to the Bible. Justin shows how one of many stories of Jesus do not fulfill Old Testament prophecies. Jesus was never a king and did not do any of the things that he said he would do. How do you feel about the authors of the Gospels lying to you? If someone writes a book that says they are a king, does that make that person a king? How can you say the god of the Bible is a loving and kind god? Why was every human created with a default of Hell? Whoever believes in this god must think that eternal suffering for missing the mark is a good thing. The caller tries to get a verse about sin that does not exist past Justin, and ends up getting schooled on how Ezekiel 37 proves that Jesus was NOT the Messiah. When you try to lie about scripture, you are going to get called out! Why was slavery good when god allowed it? God does not care about slavery, he cares about property.  Reuben in OR poses a hypothetical scenario that if we could scientifically prove the earth was young, it would strongly indicate a supernatural origin of some kind. How can something exist outside of space and time and why is this the most logical explanation? If something exists within a different space and time, it would make it natural, and just part of nature that we do not have access to. The universe is expanding, but that does not mean it did not exist prior to expanding. There are many explanations and models for this that can be found easily. Louis in PA says that consciousness can be seen as something that points to a god. If you can’t tell us what the thing is that consciousness points to, how do we know that it is pointing to a thing? Does our failure to explain consciousness mean that something beyond matter is required? How is this not god of the gaps? Something being possible is not a reason to believe that it is true and act on it. The explanation for god creates a bigger problem than it is trying to solve. Why would there not be a unicorn that goes around and gives consciousness to every newborn? “Unsolved” does not mean you can shove whatever you want in that gap. Thank you for tuning in to this fun show! Scott Dickie our back up host joins to close out the show and remember the prompt of the week is: What was god doing before he created the universe?Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-atheist-experience--3254896/support.
