Ben and Ruairi are burying Ben’s time capsule at Brookfield. They take a selfie to mark the occasion. Speculating on their own futures, Ruairi recommends Ben tells his parents his plans sooner rather than later. Ben breaks the news to Ruth and David that the uni course he’s on isn’t really him. He’s considering quitting. He wants to train to be a nurse. His parents wonder whether he’s ready for the hard work it will entail. Ben says he wants to make a difference to people’s lives. He’s already signed up for some volunteering work, and done lots of research. David’s impressed with the amount of thought Ben’s put into it, but stresses he’ll need to be sure – he can’t back out after six months. Lilian remarks to Justin how stressed Alice and Chris seem about the christening, but Justin’s distracted; he needs to get to an appointment. He’s irritated when Lilian reveals she’s put his favourite Damara pen in Ben’s capsule, and more furious when he discovers she’s also put in the ‘daffodil’ picture of him. He’ll be a laughing stock, but more importantly he’ll feel humiliated; it was a difficult time in his life. Lilian’s taken aback. Justin races to Brookfield, but he’s too late. He orders Ruairi to dig up the capsule, but Ruairi’s answer is to hand Justin a spade and a map and suggest he does it himself. Later he taunts Justin for not being able to locate the capsule – he might have been more willing to help if Justin had been nicer!
