GUEST HOST: Pete Mummert “- could commit suicide that way,” says Stone. “Most of them died instantly,” says Hall. “But a few had time to go quietly nuts.” “Let’s find the damn satellite!’ says Stone, leaving the bathroom. They open the door of the Caper One tracking van. The lieutenant’s body falls onto the roadway. Hall opens the door on the driver’s side. The sergeant’s body lays across the steering wheel. Hall examines the corpse’s forehead. “This injury,” says Hall, “There isn’t any bleeding! A cut like this – torn veins, broken capillaries — it should bleed like hell!” “Yes,” agrees Stone. He looks around. “Well, there’s no blood on any of them!” He steps over to a corpse and moves a dead vulture out of the way to look at the wounds. No blood. “Even where it’s chewed, no bleeding, ” he says. An auto mechanic’s body is knelt in front of a Buick with its hood open. There’s several dead passengers in the car. A boy lays dead next to the fuel pumps of “Roy’s Friendly Service.” Hall and Stone are in the Caper One van, trying to locate the satellite. They drive down a gravel road.
