Helping Your ADHD Child|POF64

Parenting Our Future - A podcast by Robbin McManne

What is ADHD?  My guest, Dr. Tommy Black, explains it as a neurological disorder that impacts an individual's ability to sustain attention or maintain control of their motor functions.  As parents, if you have a child with ADHD, their behavior can be triggering and frustrating.  I can relate first hand!  ADHD is also confusing because sometimes your child can’t sit still, and sometimes they are hypyer focused.  Both can indicate ADHD…so what do you do? Lets look at the many types of ADHD: 1) inattentive and distractible, 2) Impulsive/Hyperactivity 3) combined type ( a bit of 1 and 2).  What signs should you be looking for if you aren't sure if your child has ADHD? First, your child has to show these signs prior to 7 years of age and those signs can't be related to other disorders or illness.  Look for these different behaviors:       Your child can't focus, preform tasks with multiple steps,       seemingly driven by a motor so they are always on the     go       they can't finish what they start       hyper focused on something like TV, videos or games.   Why doesn't "just sit still" or "will you pay attention" work with your ADHD child? Well this is the reason why ADHD can be so frustrating for both parents and kids… What if there was an app you could download to give you the help and support you need at your fingertips when and where you need it?  Dr. Black and his colleagues at Esteem Therapeutics, have developed a world class app to help you understand ADHD and help your child THRIVE!    Esteem empowers parents to know if their child's ADHD symptoms, social and emotional development, daily life skills, sleep quality, and medication side effects are trending up, holding steady, or even declining.
