Movies, books and graphic design are central to the artistic development of Daniel Obasi. He started taking pictures out of necessity: he felt the need to tell the many stories in his head. He borrowed his first camera from a friend and the rest is history. His pictures combine dream and politics in an afro-futurist key; Obasi reflects on sexuality, toxic masculinity and cultural stereotypes, in particular those of his native Nigeria. His creativity knows no bounds: as well as a photographer, he’s also a successful stylist (who’s worked with Beyoncé and Travis Scott among others). For the Lavazza 2024 Calendar, Obasi’s pictures depict the values of hospitality and support which are followed by the Panzi Foundation, created by Denis Mukwege, winner of the Nobel Peace prize in 2018.
