Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country after anti-government protests in which hundreds of people have been killed. Huge crowds of protesters have been celebrating in the streets of the capital, but there has also been widespread looting, including in the Prime Minister's official residence. The army chief, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, says he will be forming an interim government. Also: The Japanese stock exchange has had one of the worst days in its history. The biggest drop was in Japan, where the Nikkei 225 index plunged more than 12 per cent.
