In this episode our host of everymum the podcast, Sinead O’Moore sits down to talk with Jean-Marié Stander about the fertility challenges she and husband CJ Stander faced once they began trying to conceive.
At just 26 years old Jean-Marié was told that she had early onset menopause and that she and her husband CJ, the Irish Rugby International and Munster player might not conceive the family that they so hoped for.
Away from South Africa and now calling Limerick home, Jean Marie and CJ learned that just like 1 in 6 couples our fertility is not something that any of us can take for granted. Throughout we talk about how she had no idea she had endometriosis, her experience on hormone treatment, undergoing IVF and she helps us all learn what to say and what not to say to couples about their plans to conceive.
But this is a story with a very happy ending - a story of hope, of determination through disappointment, of the unspoken impact of fertility treatment and of the support that helped them to both keep the faith as Jean-Marié speaks to us while 36 weeks pregnant and ready to finally meet their baby girl.
Our fertility health is not something we should ignore and I’m so grateful to Jean-Marié for sharing her experience with us all.
We hope this episode helps anyone who is looking forward to starting or growing their much wanted family.
