Parametric insurance pays out based on the value of predetermined metrics, instead of based on damages measured by physical inspections. Hence, blockchain technology is used to ensure that predetermined metrics are transmitted from a range of third-party data providers in an immutable, reliable and transparent manner to the insurance coverage enforcing smart contracts.
