Hare on the Moon Panchatantra Story

Baalgatha- Classic Stories for Children - A podcast by gaatha story

Hare on the moon is a Jataka story of a hare, monkey, and otter and jackal. All the four decide to offer food to the beggars on an auspicious day i.e. day of upawasa. All the three animals gather food to be offered except the hare who gets some grass. He realises that the grass would not be enough and hence decides to sacrify himself as food. God hears this and takes a form of a beggar and asks him for food. As committed, the hare jumps into fire to sacrify himself but he is unhurt. The hare is surprised by this miracle. The God explains that he was testing his commitment and was impressed with him. The God took the hare along with him and put him on the moon. The moral of the story is good deeds always pays.
