The tiny beetle wreaking havoc on Perth's trees is costing millions of dollars in rescue operations. $4M has already been spent by eight local councils in response to the polyphagous shot-hole borer. The funds are being spent on surveillance, tree removal and replanting. The invasive pest has already led to the destruction of more than 3000 trees in Perth since it was first detected in late 2021.
